“LINE OF EMOTION”
Solo Exhibition by Roman Zao (Zakharchenko)
November 1–10, 2025
"Where line becomes emotion"
Roman Zao (Zakharchenko) is a visual artist, tattoo artist, and researcher of visual culture based in the United States. His practice spans painting, tattooing, street art, and mixed media, which he approaches as interconnected forms of a single artistic language.
Roman’s work is rooted in emotional impact, compositional precision, and long-term visual thinking. Rather than focusing on surface aesthetics, he explores how line, movement, contrast, and structure shape perception and emotional response. His artistic approach emphasizes authorship, responsibility, and the enduring presence of an image within personal and cultural memory.
In addition to his studio practice, Roman is a judge at international tattoo conventions and the author of academic and research publications on tattoo art, body art, visual perception, and urban visual environments.

“Line of Emotion”
"Line of Emotion" is a visual exploration of emotional states as a fundamental human experience. Each of us lives through emotions — sometimes intensely, sometimes almost imperceptibly — yet it is these inner states that shape memory, identity, and perception far more deeply than everyday physical objects.
In this exhibition, Roman Zao invites the viewer not simply to observe, but to recognize an emotion that resonates personally. The works are conceived as emotional encounters rather than illustrations. Emotions here function as an inner force — capable of filling, unsettling, calming, or confronting the viewer long after the visual moment has passed. Impressions remain, and it is these impressions that stay with us for life.
Portrait imagery plays a central role in the exhibition. Through the contrast of light and shadow, the tension between polar color tones, and expressive facial presence, the portrait becomes the primary carrier of emotion. Each figure operates as a psychological field rather than a narrative character.
A key technical and conceptual focus of the exhibition is line and movement. Line is treated not merely as a structural element, but as an emotional vector — guiding the viewer’s gaze, setting rhythm, and shaping atmosphere. Movement within the composition becomes a tool for emotional transmission, allowing the works to exist between stillness and internal motion.
"Line of Emotion" is not about defining feelings. It is about creating space where emotion can be experienced, recognized, and carried beyond the exhibition itself.
